For months, we've all wondered about the identity of the demonic Gargoyle King and, in a town full of untrustworthy and slimy characters, it certainly wasn't easy to narrow down the suspects. The finale, however, gave fans the answers they had been waiting for as the seemingly-supernatural creature was finally unmasked.

Who is the Gargoyle King, you ask? Well, that answer proved to be a little more complicated than expected. Last week, Ethel Muggs suggested that Jason Blossom was the man behind the monster but, given that he was dead, that was highly unlikely, right? Again, it's more complicated than just a yes or no answer.

No, the original Jason Blossom was not the Gargoyle King because, as the episode would later reveal, he's still dead. However, the King was indeed a boy with red hair linked to the Blossoms who was going around calling himself Jason. That person turned out to be none other than Betty Cooper's faux half-brother Chic who, after his run-in with the Black Hood last season, was presumed dead.

According to the Black Hood himself, Hal, he took mercy on Chic because he saw himself in him and thus, brought him to Penelope, where the three of them crafted the entire scheme in a bid to get back at the town of Riverdale for all the hurt it caused them.

You see why it's complicated? Yes, Chic was the monster that had been going around terrifying people all season, revelling in the sacrifices that were made in his name, but he served a higher power and, because of that, the real Gargoyle King was Penelope Blossom.
