Scream: 12 WTF Moments From The TV Season Premiere

12. The Opening Kill

The opening sequence has always been an important part of the Scream franchise, and thankfully the opening of the TV series is rather effective. It follows Nina in a similar position as Drew Barrymore's character in the first movie, although this time she's being harassed over text rather than over a phone call. The opening makes use of modern technology, with Nina constantly getting Snapchats of herself being filmed from somewhere in the house. Nina being chased by the killer is pretty tense, briefly interrupted by a funny gag of Siri calling Pottery Barn instead of 911. It's also great that despite being on MTV, the show doesn't shy away from the blood and guts, giving you a severed head and a throat being slit within the first 10 minutes. And though there may not have been much of a reason to change it, the new Ghostface mask is still rather creepy, and it's a solid update on the classic version. This sequence is a far cry from the greatness of the original movie, especially given how quickly everything goes down here, but it's still a solid start to the series.
