11. Everyone Cares So Much That A Girl Kissed Another Girl
One of the major subplots of this episode is a video getting out of Audrey kissing another girl. It goes viral, by which the show means it gets 500 hits and that's somehow enough for it to start trending. Audrey shows up to school the next day, and everyone whispers to themselves as she walks by. Later when she arrives at the party, the whole room falls silent. Shocking! This is the girl who dared to kiss another girl! How scandalous! What year is this? It's not even that they're shocked at anything to do with the specific girl she was kissing. That never gets brought up. No, everyone just can't believe that she might be a lesbian, tossing around homophobic comments and with the video description saying "get a room you lesboz!" The horror film Unfriended had a similar plot, but at least there the viral video was somewhat embarrassing. Here, it's just a girl kissing someone. It seems so strange that the audience is supposed to believe that someone possibly being gay in high school is a big deal and is the talk of the town. High schoolers are cruel and will make fun of people for anything, sure, but this feels like something that would be happening 30 years ago, not in 2015.
