5. Carla Says Goodbye To Laverne
Outside of the main core of characters, Scrubs managed to establish a secondary and even tertiary group of characters. One of the best and most popular of these was Nurse Laverne Roberts, a mainstay of Sacred Heart and one of the funniest people there were in the show.
Ever devout in her faith, Laverne was a strong believer that everything happens for a reason, and even managed to prove herself right and Dr. Cox wrong on one occasion. However, it hurt the hospital all the more when things didn't happen for a reason, like when Laverne was in a fatal car accident.
She hung on for a while, long enough to haunt Carla at least. While everyone else went to see her, her best friend struggled to let go, and kept the thought of her around because she was scared of saying goodbye. Eventually she realised that it didn't matter when she did it, Laverne was going to pass and she would regret it for the rest of her life if she didn't make the time for her.
Through gritted teeth and teary eyes, Carla spoke to Laverne of their first day together, the impact she had on her over the last 15 years, and how much she was going to miss her. It was like Laverne hung on long enough for Carla to say goodbye before her heart monitor flatlined.
