Scrubs: 10 Most Heartbreaking Moments

3. All Three Patients Die

Scrubs My Screw-Up
NBC

Though Scrubs is at its core a comedy show, it wasted no time in letting viewers know that it could change its tone to heartbreak, despair, and depression in a heartbeat. In just the fourth ever chapter of the series fans were given a simply soul crushing episode that saw three patients die.

When JD first started at the hospital, he was told by his resident that, not counting the maternity ward or the emergency room, one in every three patients admitted to the hospital dies. As he said this, he, Turk, and Elliott were introduced to their new patients, strongly suggesting that one of the three would die.

The way this was set up got viewers immediately trying to figure out who would be the one to die. Mrs. Tanner, JD's patient, Mrs. Guerrero, Elliott and Carla's patient, or David, Turk's patient. However, this theory doesn't always hold true, as sometimes the odds aren't even that good. All three patients died.

In just 20 minutes, Scrubs not only introduced and developed these patients as characters, it forced the doctors and audience alike to connect with them, making their deaths so much harder on everyone.
