It's easy to call Carla the glue that held the show (and Sacred Heart) together. Her caring personality, harshness and well-written jokes made her one of the most important characters in the show, despite how underappreciated she was. Still, getting this actor could help bring new life to the character.
Rodriguez is a passionate, goofy, high-energy performer with plenty of experience and a killer sense of humour. She doesn't take herself too seriously at all, and this has led to a host of great performances in projects like Diary of a Future President, Big Mouth and, of course, Jane the Virgin.
However, she's not limited to comedy, as she's got lots of experience in the shoes of severe characters as well. This would be an easy plus point, as Carla has a severity that helps to keep the main cast grounded and deliver on some of the most emotional moments in the series.
She's a pitch-perfect casting and the right choice, without a doubt.
