Secret Invasion Episode 5 Review - 5 Ups & 4 Downs

6. Down - The Avengers

Secret Invasion Nick Fury
Marvel Studios

In last week's Secret Invasion Ups and Downs, it was noted that the writers had backed themselves into a corner with regards to the Avengers. Whether they turned up or not, there was a chance that either outcome would hurt the series. In the case of the latter, there needed to be a fantastic explanation, and unfortunately, there wasn't.

Sonya straight up asked Fury in front of his own grave why he hadn't called Earth's Mightiest Heroes for help, to which he said in response a couple of things that didn't really make sense.

Firstly, this was personal. Understandable, in that this entire conflict was close to Fury, and traced back to him to begin with. However, though this may have been the case initially, someone just tried to kill the President of the United States. That's just taken it to a whole new level, one at which there would have to be serious questions asked of the new Captain America if he didn't get involved.

Then, Fury said that they couldn't keep depending on these superheroes to save their asses. Isn't that literally the exact reason that Fury himself put the Avengers together in the first place? To fight the battles that we never could? This was a flimsy excuse and one that didn't really make any sense.
