Secret Invasion Episode 5 Review - 5 Ups & 4 Downs

2. Up - Leading Into The Final Showdown

Secret Invasion Nick Fury
Marvel Studios

In the comics, Secret Invasion was the story of a full-scale infiltration of the shapeshifting aliens among Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Alongside the more subtle part of the invasion was a full-scale war between the two worlds. Secret Invasion in the MCU has been very different.

Yes, there are a million Skrulls living among humans, but when the conflict boils down to its bare bones, it will come down to just two people. Gravik was just a child when he first met Fury, and clearly worked closely with the former Director of SHIELD over the years. Their fight is one that is deeply personal.

Forget the Skrulls, forget Fury's abandonment - this is leading up to Fury against Gravik. The man with nothing to lose, and who is backing himself to win the fight over bringing in the Avengers, against the physically imposing, damn near unstoppable super Skrull with both Extremis and Groot's powers.

With Sonya, G'iah, and Varra still to consider as well, this could be and should be an explosive finale, set up perfectly by the conclusion of the penultimate episode.
