Secret Invasion Episode 6 Review - 5 Ups & 4 Downs
8. Down - Was Secret Invasion Really Fury's Story?
The point has been driven home several times throughout Secret Invasion that this is Nick Fury's fight. The Skrulls, and Gravik, were in their situation because of him, and he refused to call the Avengers because they couldn't save the world like he could.
Fury kept losing allies, and with Gravik responsible for the deaths of both Maria Hill and Talos on top of everything else, this felt like a very personal fight. The penultimate episode put a lot of time into building up to the final battle in this way, but that's not how it ended.
More on the powerful conversation between Gravik and who he thought was Nick Fury in the Ups section of this article, but once it was revealed that Fury himself wasn't in Russia to fight Gravik, the show failed to deliver what it promised.
Secret Invasion had been marketed and told as Nick Fury's story, but he didn't even have much of a hand in the final fight. Arguably, this was more G'iah's fight, and G'iah's story, and should have put Emilia Clarke front and centre all season rather than Samuel L. Jackson.
