Secret Invasion Episode 6 Review - 5 Ups & 4 Downs

7. Down - A Not So Unstoppable Villain

Secret Invasion Nick Fury

As much as Gravik was threatening the entire human race across the globe, Secret Invasion came down to a fistfight. A super-sized fistfight, but a fistfight nonetheless. While Fury and Sonya had to convince the President not to fire on Russia, G'iah had to outmuscle Gravik.

This part of the villain's plan revolved around superhuman DNA. He wanted to become a Super Skrull, for which Extremis and Groot weren't enough for him. He utilised Fury's Harvest and took on a handful of powers seen through the MCU, but the key came from Aldrich Killian's healing invention.

What made Gravik so unstoppable was the fact that no matter what happened to him, Extremis fixed it. There were absolutely no ramifications for getting shot in the face, and so in theory nothing anyone could have done, even G'iah with her ridiculous powers, should have made any difference. This went a long way to making the prospect of the fight so tantalising.

Yet when it came to it, Gravik's death felt like a bit of a cop-out. Why couldn't Extremis cure his injury? It was a bigger injury sure, but the way it had been portrayed previously was essentially limitless. In the same way Aldrich Killian should have survived in Iron Man 3, Gravik should have survived Secret Invasion.
