This very website recently ran a list showcasing the many great tv characters who were introduced late in a tv series’ run and how their presence ended up dominating and stealing the entire show. One glaring omission from that list was probably Elaine’s goofball, every man love interest David Puddy.
As portrayed to absolute perfection by the gruff Patrick Warburton in his early breakthrough role, Puddy’s on and off and on and off and YES, on and off again relationship with Elaine Benes became a recurring joke in the later few series' of the show.
We didn’t meet Puddy until very late in season 6 of Seinfeld but he basically became almost a fully recurring star character, perhaps over taking even Tim Whatley and Newman in screen time.
