Sex Education Season 2 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
2. Too. Many. Characters.
Sex Education's greatest strength has always been its ensemble, and while that remains true in season two, it's also fair to say that the writers have probably loaded a few characters too many onto their plate this time.
Considering that the seasons contain just eight 50-minute episodes, that's less than seven hours to explore a cast now numbering in the dozens, resulting in many characters getting the short shrift.
Especially malnourished are several new characters, namely asexual Scottish acting prodigy Florence, French transfer student Rahim (Sami Outalbali), and Maeve's new wheelchair-bound neighbour Isaac (George Robinson).
Though all three are intriguing additions to the cast, it doesn't really feel like the show has enough room to make them fully well-rounded characters, and so they ultimately come off a tad flat.
The show is clearly stretching itself thin to try and cover so many characters, and so it probably would've made sense to actually cut a few of them.
