Sherlock: 10 "Mouthwatering Ideas" For Upcoming One-Off Special
3. Sherlock Working For The Government
Sherlock's relationship with the British government is a testy one, epitomised by the banter between him and Mycroft. While Mycroft is always keen to bring his loose cannon of a brother inside the tent, Sherlock sees his brother as unambitious and constantly pokes fun at him: in A Scandal in Belgravia he refers to him as "the Queen" and turns up at Buckingham Palace in nothing but a sheet. But with Moriarty seemingly back, Sherlock may end up working directly for the British government, and that would make for a great story. On top of the conflict this situation would produce between the Holmes brothers, this would be an opportunity for Gatiss and Moffat to draw on the many cases in which Holmes dabbled in politics. The Naval Treaty, The Second Stain and His Last Bow are all really good stories which (excepting the last example) haven't been explored in detail so far. It might also give an insight into Mycroft's comments in His Last Vow about the undercover assignment in Easter Europe and "what happened to the other one"...
