Sherlock: 10 Worst Things Sherlock Holmes Ever Did

5. Acting Distant Towards His Sister

Now, it's important to state that Eurus Holmes had absolutely no right to do any of the things she did. In fact, killing your childhood best friend, trying to destroy your life and putting you in a Saw like puzzle is the furthest thing possible from a justifiable response to a brother's lack of attention. But that doesn't mean Sherlock was entirely in the right either.

It's made clear from the beginning of the show that Sherlock has no sentimental attachments to his family. His rivalry with Mycroft solidified that, and the way he seems ashamed of his parents added the extra icing to the cake. While it's understandable to have some residual irritancy with family, it appears that he genuinely pushed them away, and that's made most evident from his dynamic with Eurus, his sister.

The end of the final episode reveals that Eurus' had been letting out a cry for help the whole time and that all the awful things she had done were a ploy to get her brother to pay attention to her. While that doesn't excuse anything, it does act as a metaphor for how Sherlock's lack of care for those who raised and lived with him caused significant problems.
