5. Sherlock Vs The Undead

Having established that a lot of the episode was set in Sherlock's Mind Palace, all sense of reality was thrown out of the window for the show's final reel - resulting in this full-on horror moment that the show could never normally get away with. Yes, it's Sherlock meets The Walking Dead. Even in Series Two's horror-flavoured The Hounds of Baskerville we didn't see anything too traumatizing, just a big dog, but here a hundred-year old rotting corpse comes back to life and lunges at Sherlock. Depending on your point of view, this is either the show completely going off the rails and losing all sense of plot or the writers having a blast pulling the rug from under our feet.
