Sherlock: 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References

7. John's Blog Posts

The opening of A Scandal In Belgravia, where we see John documenting several of his and Sherlock's cases on his blog, is probably the densest scene in all of Sherlock for references to Conan Doyle. It€™s easy to miss them all so let€™s run through them now. Deep breath...

Firstly, the blog post titled Life Goes On refers to the Tilly Briggs pleasure cruise, a modernising of a case mentioned in The Sussex Vampire. Then John calls the problem of the afflicted comic book nerds The Geek Interpreter, in a nod to The Greek Interpreter. The affair of the woman with the strange spots on her body is The Speckled Blonde, akin to The Speckled Band. The murder that Sherlock can€™t solve is titled Sherlock Holmes Baffled, referring to the first ever Sherlock Holmes film made in 1900. And finally the case that Sherlock calls €œthe bellybutton murders€ is labelled The Naval Treatment, a la The Naval Treaty.

Phew!
