Sherlock: 7 Things We Can Look Forward To In Season 4

6. Going Beyond Canon

While Sherlock's episodes aren't necessarily in the same order as the original Conan Doyle stories, His Last Bow was, chronologically, the last Sherlock Holmes story. With His Last Vow as the last episode of Season 3, how will the writers handle continuing the stories past the point Conan Doyle developed for the characters? Obviously we are stepping into new territory, with John and Mary having a daughter and perhaps even the return of Sherlock's arch-nemesis (more on that later), but Steven Moffat has assured us that he and co-creator Mark Gatiss have plotted out their ideas for Season 4 and even 5. If Season 3 is any indication, we will be in for even more of the unexpected, which is part of what makes the show great. The creators aren't afraid to try something new, even if it now may involve creating a life for Sherlock Holmes that has never even been considered before.
