Sherlock: 7 Things We Can Look Forward To In Season 4

1. The Return Of Moriarty

I think the Sherlock fandom let out a collective shriek when Jim Moriarty's face flashed up on screen at the end of His Last Vow accompanied by the words "Did you miss me?" The only response I have to that question is YES. YES, WE HAVE MISSED YOU. While I know some Sherlockians are skeptical of the return of Sherlock's greatest nemesis, I, for one, am overjoyed to have him back. Part of what Season 3 lacked was a truly great villain. Charles Augustus Magnussen was a despicable and interesting villain, but nowhere near as enjoyable to watch as Andrew Scott's Moriarty. Moriarty's cameos in The Empty Hearse and especially in the mind palace sequence in His Last Vow were some of the best parts of Season 3. Now we have our favorite psychopath back, and that's what will make the show truly captivating again. That is, if it is actually him. Many people have expressed doubt as to whether it is truly Moriarty, or if someone else could be behind the images of Moriarty's face we see displayed on all those television screens - after all, it is just an image of him, not his actual face, and the voice that accompanies that image is also rather distorted. However, the fact that we actually do see Moriarty, in a three-second clip after the credits, gives me hope that this is not just a huge fake-out by the nefarious minds of Moffat and Gatiss. And so we enter another hiatus with a question much like the one that drove fans crazy last time - instead of "How did Sherlock fake his death?", it's "How did Moriarty fake his suicide?" It seems fitting, actually, since what makes Moriarty such a great villain is his parallels with Sherlock. I can just imagine a confrontation scene between the two of them, where Sherlock tries to deduce how he did it, while Moriarty tries to do the same with Sherlock. Perhaps they'll compare notes, and we'll finally get a proper explanation for how Sherlock faked his death (well, there's no harm in hoping). In any case, Season 4 shouldn't be too far away, with filming rumored to be starting this summer. As long as the hiatus is shorter than two years, I'm sure any fan will be happy to wait. Here's hoping it will come with all the amazing acting, writing, and overall quality that makes Sherlock so irresistible. What are you looking forward to in Season 4?
