Sherlock Season 3: 5 Things We Want To See

2. The Future Mrs Watson

We€™re two seasons in and we are yet to be introduced to John€™s bride-to-be, Mary Morstan so it makes a safe bet that we€™ll be seeing her very soon. When we return to Sherlock in the autumn, Watson will still be mourning the death of his closest friend, so it only makes sense that to move on, he needs to meet someone new and that someone could well be our Mary. This also links to one of the three teaser words dropped by the writers €“ €˜Wedding.€™ There have been deductions that this relates to other stories in the Sherlock Holmes canon that involve marriage, weddings and runaway brides, but I would like to think that it means the marriage between John and Mary. Although the teased €˜wedding€™ episode is meant to be the first of series three and we have yet to see both John and Mary on screen together, it doesn€™t make it any less plausible. Series 2€™s opening episode, €˜A Scandal in Belgravia€™ spanned the best part of half a year, going into depth of Irene Adler€™s character. What€™s to say that the talented writers can€™t do the same a second time, but this time with Mary? I mean Sherlock will be sticking to the shadows for a while, trying to clear his name, because if you remember, he was on the run after being framed for kidnapping those children. In that time, we can get to know Mary while Sherlock watches from afar. It would also make a comical moment for Sherlock to reappear in Watson€™s life when they€™re about to say their vows. I can imagine that moment will be filled with a lot of swearing and possibly a punch in the face.

It would also be interesting to what happens when Mary is added to the formula. Sherlock€™s grown attached to John as a friend and companion as was shown in the moments before he jumped, but what happens when John has other commitments to his wife-to-be. What happens when he can€™t come running when summoned. I€™m directly referencing the reaction of Guy Ritchie€™ Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.), where things get tense between the two. I€™m not saying that this should be repeated or copied into the BBC series, but either way Mary will find herself unintentionally driving a wedge between the Consulting Detective and the Doctor.
