2. Sherlock And John Will Finally Become An Item

Let's return to that trailer for a moment, and discuss the scene that has really got fans talking. In it, new villain Culverton Smith (as played by Toby Jones) seems to taunt Holmes into revealing "his darkest secret." In the next clip, Sherlock turns to someone unknown and says "I love you."

Naturally, most people believe he is talking to John and are taking this as confirmation at last that the so-called Johnlock Conspiracy is real. This theory goes that creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have always intended the end goal of the show to be Sherlock and John becoming a romantic couple. It's an issue that has split the fandom down the middle; half of the fans think the continuous references to Sherlock and John being gay or caring for each other are proof of the JLC while the other half believe they are just running jokes.

The dampers were put on this idea recently, though, when Mark Gatiss said that a Sherlock-John romance was "not the story we want to tell." Still, hardcore Johnlock "shippers" are adamant this is just a white lie to cover up the truth.

And, of course, as the show might really be ending soon, there would be no better time to put John and Sherlock together...
