5. Burns' Flying Monkeys - The Last Temptation Of Homer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB5Q6tC1tZ8 "Continue the research." And we're back with another classic Mr Burns moment from the same episode, 'The Last Temptation of Homer'. While the story line didn't specifically revolve around Burns, Homer's infatuation with new co-worker Mindy provided the writers with plenty of opportunities for workplace humor that featured everyone's favorite power plant boss. Homer and Mindy (voiced by the incredible Michelle Pfeiffer) attend a work convention together and end up staying across the hall from each other in the same hotel. As Homer grapples with his attraction to Mindy, she reveals a truly wicked idea... to ring room service! We immediately cut to a buzzer in Mr Burns's office which warns him that someone has charged room service to the company. In response, Burns walks over to a cage of winged monkeys and releases them out the open window. "Fly, my pretties, fly!" Unsurprisingly, each monkey falls out and plummets to their death, screeching their terrified monkey screams all the way down. After, Burns simply sighs and tells Smithers to "continue the research," as if it were the most normal thing in the world. This is what The Simpsons did best in its prime, contrasting heartfelt relatable story lines with ridiculous moments that shouldn't really work but somehow, the whole thing comes together beautifully. And you can't argue with an awesome Wizard of Oz parody. Family Guy may have referenced films more often but no one does it better than The Simpsons.
