The Simpsons: 10 Real Unaired Pitches (And What They Could Have Been About)

10. Homer's Sexual Fantasy

Originally pitched by writer Dan Greaney, little can be found about this episode idea, suggesting that Homer's Sexual Fantasy never got past the ideas stage. It would be too full-on a title for Fox to handle - this is more in keeping with its other major and more risque animated hit Family Guy. With the show airing before what would be classed as the watershed here in the UK, blatant references would be too much. It also doesn't fit with the show's tone, which is more implicit and implied than this idea would suggest. The fact that Homer and Marge talk about "snuggles" while in bed demonstrates this point. The issue of sexual attraction has been the theme of other Simpsons episodes. Homer and Marge have both contemplated affairs and leaving each other, most memorably with Homer and Mindy in "The Last Temptation of Homer." Marge and Homer have also tried sex outside too, finding that the fear of being caught turns them on in "Natural Born Kissers." These two episodes, combined with other episodes during The Simpsons, suggest that this idea may have been slightly watered down and merged into other episodes. The writers have mined this theme for some very funny moments and it could be done again in the future.
