The Simpsons: 10 Secondary Characters Voiced By Harry Shearer
5. Dr. Julius Hibbert
First Appearance: "Bart the Daredevil," Season 2. Springfield's most competent doctor, Dr. Julius Hibbert is possibly the least-dysfunctional citizen of Springfield. Sure, he laughs at the most inappropriate times, and he has two long-lost brothers (the manager of the Shelbyville Orphanage and Bleeding Gums Murphy) but he takes his job very seriously. Dr. Hibbert- through the talents of Shearer- is able to make the switch from jovial to deadly serious in a heart beat. When Homer was shot in the forehead by a flower, Lisa inquired why Hibbert couldn't remove the flower. Hibbert laughed, and reminded her that he was a doctor, not a gardener; when Homer innocently asked if Hibbert could at least trim the leaves, Hibbert sternly answered him, "What did I JUST say?" Funniest Moment: Homer, after suffering a massive heart attack, is going through his options with Dr. Hibbert. Dr. Hibbert: "Homer, I'm afraid you'll have to undergo a coronary bypass operation." Homer: "Say it in English, Doc." Dr. Hibbert: "You're going to need open heart surgery." Homer: "Spare me your medical mumbo-jumbo." Dr. Hibbert: "We're going to cut you open, and tinker with your ticker." Homer: "Could you dumb it down a shade?"
