The Simpsons: 20 Awesome Easter Eggs And References

11. Citizen Burns

Episode: Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish (S2, E4) The Simpsons may appear to be but a lowly cartoon but the show has proven on multiple occasions that it isn't against grappling with the greats of cinema by making explicit references to Citizen Kane. Indeed, the episode widely considered to be the greatest of all-time, Rosebud, is heavily influenced by Orson Welles' 1941 film. In Two Cars In Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish (a bigger mouthful than Burns' bite of three eyed fish!) Mr Burns is attempting to be elected as governor and is delivering a speech in front of a massive black and white poster emblazoned with his face, taken straight from Citizen Kane. When the campaign suddenly takes a nose-dive Burns yells "you can't do this to me - I'm Charles Montgomery Burns!", the same thing said by Charles Foster Kane.
