Episode: Various Contrary to 'The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular' which claims that the till displays the phrase "NRA4EVER" every time Maggie is accidentally scanned (part of the ongoing parodying of the right wing), the till actually reads $847.63. This number is supposedly the monthly cost to raise a child back when The Simpsons first aired. We suspect that in the two-and-a-bit decades since the show came out this price has gone up somewhat. Maggie may be content with a simple pacifier compared to the kids of today with their iPads and Nintendo DSs but the cost of basic necessities alone must far exceed the $847.63 needed to raise a child each month in the 90s
