The Simpsons: 5 Greatest Characters (Who Only Appeared In One Scene)

5. The Happiest Guy in Springfield - Hurricane Neddy

Happyspringfield Remember how Ned Flanders snapped after losing his house to a hurricane and took it out on the townspeople, who built him a shoddy replacement but were only trying to help their neighbour? Of course you do, it was one of the funniest moments in Simpsons history. Virtually nobody is clear of Ned's tirade - even 'Little Lisa Simpson: Springfield's answer to a question no one asked' gets a mauling, as does Lenny - who Flanders even admits to not knowing. But there is one guy who is spared the verbal abuse of the others - The Happiest Guy in Springfield. Moments before Ned discovers how poorly built his new house is, he wrongly refers to himself with this title, and when the others understandably look to the real Happiest Guy in their confusion, he is so unerringly happy that he doesn't even mind Ned's pretence to the claim - in fact, he's just happy they looked. Why he's there in the first place is a no-brainer - surely someone that happy would want others to experience his own level of perpetual elation, right? So he'd obviously volunteer to help rebuild the home of a neighbour who's gone through hell. And of course, Ned doesn't issue him with an insult, because there couldn't possibly be any character flaws to this walking beacon of happiness. A lot of bad stuff has happened in Springfield over the years and we haven't seen the Happiest Guy in a long while now - I just hope he's retained his happiness.
