The Simpsons: 5 Greatest Characters (Who Only Appeared In One Scene)

1. Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo - The Last Temptation Of Homer

Joey Who is Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo? There's so much we can glean from his all-too-brief appearance in the Simpsons, sitting alone in a dark corner of Moe's Tavern, nursing a beer with a look that suggests he hasn't had the greatest of days. We all know the joke (Homer uses Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo as a spur of the moment name for his fictitious friend, Moe is unconvinced, saying that that's the worst name he's ever heard, and the real Joey Jo-Jo bursts into tears upon hearing this and flees the bar, while Barney calls after him in concern) so I shall get right to explaining why this man is the greatest one-scene character in the Simpsons. First of all, his backstory is evidenced by his appearance: Joey Jo-Jo seems to be an intellectual - bespectacled and suited up, but nonetheless moping over a beer like the rest of Moe's barflies. Why is he so glum? It can only be because of his ludicrous name, as one mention of its absurdity sends him completely over the edge. Clearly Joey has had a lifetime of refusal and ridicule because of that name. Perhaps he's fresh from an unsuccessful job interview, going by the suit. Or, he's just been to a relative's funeral and is now the only remaining Shabadoo alive on the planet, who must carry the burden of the title alone for the rest of his life. Either way, criticism of his name obviously cuts deep, and it doesn't seem like Joey Jo-Jo will be coming to terms with it any time soon. Then there's the fact that resident alcoholic Barney Gumball obviously knows him - if that's the case why didn't he try and stop Moe from criticising the name, knowing what reaction it would bring? Come to that, why isn't Barney over there comforting his suffering friend? Poor old Joey Jo-Jo. You'd think he'd have changed his name by now - As Bart would say, how could someone with glasses that thick be so stupid? Who are your favourite one-scene Simpsons characters?
