The Simpsons: Edna Krabappel’s 10 Greatest Moments

2. Edna Dates Her Boss €“ Grade School Confidential

Rsz Ednaskinner While Seymour Skinner is a man of many fine qualities and virtues, excitement is not one of those. It takes Edna throwing a lit firecracker among her class to wake them after one of Skinner's deathly boring tannoy announcements, but against all the odds, in 'Grade School Confidential', Edna awakes the firecracker inside the Principal in her finest hour of seduction. While hiding out in Martin Prince's disturbingly effeminate pink playhouse, the sparks begin to fly €“
"What kind of little boy has a tea set?" "I think we both know the answer to that €“ a lucky boy!"
Oh Seymour, you charmer you. The chemistry between Edna and Seymour is surprisingly effective, although Edna could use some work on her desserts. Fortunately apple sauce was merely a prelude to the main course, if you know what I mean! A subtle touch that may be glossed over by many is the fact that Edna does not rob Skinner of his innocence in the classic man-eating way we would assume. At the end of the episode he confesses to being a 44-year-old virgin, and this fact actually gives Edna some hefty emotional depth. Clearly it's not like her to willingly hold off on going all the way, so there's only one explanation for it €“ it must be love! The main meat of the episode is a rather touching struggle between true love and the soul-destroying image of public decency their jobs demand. It's probably the most believable of Edna's romances €“ a world away from the cheap shock tactics of, say, Moe, or Comic Book Guy €“ and I for one would have liked them to get back together before her enforced exit from the show.
