6. Edna Starts Dating Ned The Ned-Liest Catch
As previously mentioned, 'The Ned-liest Catch' season-ending viewer-vote got the blood boiling for some Simpsons devotees. Tongue-in-cheek or not, I'd argue that it was slightly unwelcome. But still, to concentrate on that would be harsh when there is so much Edna material to get through! Edna's inevitable descent into violence against one Bart Simpson is quite a satisfying conclusion to all those years of love/hate banter between the two. and it's actually quite a believable turn of events for Edna and Ned to find love from such common hatred. Ned has after all always been tormented by Bart and his father, so there's much room for bonding over this. Their tentative romance arguably too quickly overcomes Ned's hesitancy towards pre-marital sex, but Ned is less happy with Edna's past has he lived under a rock this whole time? The string of lovers Ned imagines on Edna's puckered lips are an episode highlight, and there is a classic Moe moment as we are reminded just how low Edna has stooped over the years, as Ned is forced to ponder his future with Springfield's most fallen of angels. Well, with the help of the viewers... One problem with this was that the similarity to the Edna/Skinner pairing from previous seasons was a bit hard to ignore. He provides the same Yin to Edna's Yang that Seymour did, only this time with the religious twist. But isn't that the point of Edna, to go around the block a few times?
