Skins: 4 Reasons We're Optimistic About Series 7 (And 4 Why We're Not)

4. It Can€™t Be Worse Than Series 6

skins I like to shy away from making sweeping declarations, particularly when I don€™t have hard evidence to back them up, but I simply can€™t believe that Skins€™ final series can be any worse than Series 6. I€™ll spare you my scathing criticism of Series 6 but suffice it to say that I personally found it depressing, poorly written, and distinctly lacking in realism. Since the three central characters will be more or less carrying the episodes on their own, it€™s highly unlikely that we€™ll see another main character die which potentially means a lighter tone. Plus the episodes seem to be more focussed on the characters and their reactions to their changing lives, which indicates a welcome lack of scenes predicated mainly on spectacle like the car chase in Series 6€™s opening episode. Both of which point to a Series 7 that is both more upbeat and more grounded than its immediate predecessor. Which can only be a good thing. So, if I am right about this, it basically means that the only way is up. What the end of Skins would have been prior to these new episodes was so bad that that almost anything that follows it will seem better by comparison. Plus it means there€™s a chance that the writing staff used up all of their worst ideas on Series 6, leaving both them and us with better ones for Series 7.
