Episode Summary: Superhero team-up! The JSA and the Justice League join forces. By season 9, Smallville had well and truly immersed itself in DC mythology, introducing a rudimentary Justice League with the spotlight on Green Arrow; here it adds the JSA, and throws recurring character Martian Manhunter in there too. The tenuous premise of a killer after the Justice Society is little more than an excuse for a two hour team-up between the youngsters and the old guard. Superman works best in a team, because his usually unshakeable convictions are challenged by heroes with more cynical and abrasive attitudes. While Smallville never had the rights to the best foil of all, Batman, we get a whole lot here to make up for it. Michael Shanks is suitably gruff and irritable as Carter Hall/Hawkman he made a welcome return in season 10 particularly when paired with an equally sulky Oliver Queen, who dubs him 'Conan'. We also get a cryptic hint at Clark's future courtesy of Doctor Fate, for whom cryptic is actually a redundant adjective. Absolute Justice is the culmination of Smallville's investment in DC's history.
