Smallville: 10 Episodes Which Got Superman Right

3. Infamous (Season 8, Episode 15)

Episode Summary: Clark goes public with his abilities. It ends badly. Time travel fixes it once again. Lois Lane is one of the most important parts of the Superman mythos. She grounds Superman but also encourages him, and Erica Durance plays Smallville's Lois in the feisty tradition of Margot Kidder, Teri Hatcher and Dana Delany. This episode gives us Clark telling Lois his secret ("Guess I should stop calling you Smallville...") then catching her in his arms, in an homage to an iconic moment in film and on the page. Infamous is a busy episode which justifies Clark's decision to keep his powers secret and moves him one step closer to the big glasses, but it's on the list because of Lois. Everything about her scenes, from her assumption that she is the first one Clark told to her correct observation that Clark will not tell her a second time, is pitch perfect. While Crusade gave us a Lois Lane who would be more than a match for Clark's crazy life, Infamous actually confronts her with it and she reacts as brilliantly as we hoped she would.
