Desperately seeking a way out of SAMCRO he selects himself to take part in Damon Pope's sick game and pays for it with his life. The reason this sits at the top of our list is that Opie and Jax are perhaps the show's most important relationship with each man drawing on the other for strength throughout the show's entire run. Having Jax stand impotently by while his best friend and 'brother' is beaten to death by a group of prisoners is the saddest thing we've had to watch for a very long time, especially when you consider the rough ride Opie's had over the last five years. The subsequent funeral episode that followed just made things even harder but a fitting way to see him off. It was sure as Hell sad to see him go but it was the best end possible for such an excellent character.
