Sons Of Anarchy 7.1 - 5 Talking Points From The Season Premiere

4. Gemma's Lie

It€™s no secret that Gemma Teller-Morrow is one of the most self-serving, manipulative characters to ever appear on a television screen. Katey Sagal plays her with such commitment that most viewers no longer think of her as Peggy Bundy, which is a feat to be admired. Over the course of six seasons, Gemma has performed some despicable acts and has been the chessmaster behind the scenes quietly moving pieces around the board to suit her desires. She hides behind the guise of €œeverything I do is for my family and this club€ but in truth it€™s for her own self-preservation. Nothing good can come of her leading SAMCRO into a war with the Chinese, and ostensibly the Mayans, except for it keeps her out of her son€™s crosshairs for the murder of his wife. Her lie to Jax was all about saving herself and spotlighting blame elsewhere. The show did a terrific job of making us feel sympathy for the man who Gemma fingered as Tara€™s killer, despite the fact that by nature of his position he€™s no doubt committed his share of atrocities as well. His portrayal as the sad, lonely little boy pouting at the bar while everyone around him partakes in the debauchery added gravity to the scenes of his torture. While there would be a tremendous satisfaction to seeing Gemma meet her fate at the hands of her own son for what she's done to his wife and his father, it wouldn't be surprising in the least if the SAMCRO matriarch is the last one standing amongst the rubble when this show is said and done.
