Sons Of Anarchy 7.12 Review - 5 Talking Points From Red Rose

1. A Mother's Work Is Never Done

Up until the very moment the trigger was pulled it was never apparent whether or not Jax would have the ability to go through with taking his own mother's life. The very thought of such an act is so unspeakable that it felt like going too far, even for someone with as much blood on his hands as Jackson Teller, Gemma had resigned herself to what was coming - she couldn't bear the thought of a life without her family and knew that was no longer possible - and after visiting her father in a quest for a small bit of conscience-clearing absolution, faced her son with a quiet acceptance of what awaited her. The brilliance of this scene is that Jax wanted a way out, begging for another choice, but Gemma Teller, ever the manipulative matriarch, played that role until her final breath, giving her son the approval and resolve he needed to put a bullet through her head. Gemma met her end on her own terms, in control until her last moment of life. The end of the episode saw Jax return home and sleep with Wendy (because nothing's more seductive that murdering your mom and wearing her blood on your sneakers) while his mother lies dead in the garden where he killed her. Their relationship has come full circle and in a complete 180 from the first season, viewers now feel for Wendy for getting sucked back into the life that destroys everyone it touches when she's worked so hard to rebuild herself. With only one episode of Sons Of Anarchy remaining there's no telling where things will end, but the last mile of the final ride is going to be incredible.
