Sons Of Anarchy 7.12 Review - 5 Talking Points From Red Rose
2. Unser's Last Stand
The trip to Oregon to retrieve Gemma was a fool's errand that never had a chance of success and Unser knew that. He wanted so desperately to prevent the chaos that was coming, partly due to his unrequited love for the woman he now saw for what she was and party because he was just sick and tired of the bloodshed. This is a man who had very little keeping him going beyond his quest to make things right, and he's always had a love for and devotion to Gemma Teller, despite her usage and manipulation of him. It's quite sad, and while he's done his share of dirt through his involvement with the Sons, Unser is a sympathetic figure who it would've been nice to see survive this implosion. Sadly, he did not. He knew Jax wasn't going to allow him to call it in or deny him his closure with Gemma, and his false bravado in attempting to stop him was another acceptance of fate, as all that Wayne had left was taken from him the moment Jax shared the truth. For his part, Jax pulled the trigger with pity in his eyes and it felt like a mercy killing sparing Wayne the grief, but at the same time he was so wrecked by the impending confrontation with Gemma that he had buried any remorse he may have felt.
