Though it didn't actually happen until the penultimate ever episode of Sons of Anarchy, Juice's death was on the cards three seasons earlier when he betrayed the club. Eli Roosevelt blackmailed him into taking drugs as proof of SAMCRO's relationship with the Galindo Cartel, and he killed Miles to keep his secret.

Either of these things would have been enough to earn Juice a death sentence on their own, but Jax decided to put him to a better use. Willing to do anything for a pardon, he killed Darvany Jennings on his President's orders, though when he got high and admitted what he did to Nero, he undid any good faith he'd earned.

On the run from the club, Juice helped cover up the true nature of Tara's murder, and pinned the guilt on Henry Lin's crew. This took him past the point of no return, and on Juice's confession of what he did, Jax decided that he needed to die.

It was Tully who ultimately took Juice's life in prison, by stabbing him in the neck during a mass brawl orchestrated just so it could happen. He knew it was coming, and had resigned himself to death, all he asked was that he was given time to finish his pie first.
