South Park: 12 Most Paused Moments

5. Animators Hand

South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut Kenny
Comedy Central

It’s well known that South Park episodes are made in a number of days thanks to the advanced technology of computer animation (and frankly, because the visuals are simplistic enough for production to happen so quickly).

However, the pilot episode wasn’t so easy because it was made almost entirely of paper animation, cost $300,000 and took up to six months to produce. The stop-motion is noticeable because of how each character casts a shadow. But there was also another giveaway of the production methods.

During Chef’s song “I’m Gonna Make Love To You, Woman”, a noticable blur can be seen to the left for a very brief second. Pause at the correct moment and you’ll see an animator’s hand is visibly in the frame, making it into the final edit.
