South Park: 5 Most Controversial Episodes Ever

2. Trapped In The Closet

Sp Cloest Leaving Muhammad behind for a moment and returning swiftly to Scientology, Trapped in the Closet sees Stan join the Church of Scientology and become the reincarnation or €œsecond coming€ of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, which leads to famous scientologists John Travolta and Tom Cruise locking themselves in Stan€™s closet. Given the obvious homosexual connotations that come from Tom Cruise being unable to come out of the closet, and given the blatant mockery of Cruise€™s religion, it didn€™t come as a big surprise that Cruise kicked up a fuss. He reportedly refused to promote Mission Impossible III if the episode aired, and with both Paramount Pictures and Comedy Central being owned by parent company Viacom this was certainly problematic, although not enough so to persuade Matt and Trey to pull any punches. Cruise wasn€™t the only celebrity that threw a tantrum. Isaac Hayes, the voice of Chef, was also unhappy with the episode, and left the show as a result of this. But did the reaction stop them from mocking Tom Cruise again? Like the image of Muhammad, nothing is off limits for Matt and Trey, as was discovered in the most controversial South Park episode of all time.
