South Park: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best
7. Season 1 (1997)
No matter how good or bad South Park was going to be, it was always going to be controversial. When it debuted in 1997, viewers had rarely seen profanity and sexual content in a cartoon before. In hindsight, you might wonder if the show took off because of the controversy or because of the quality. But if you revisit where it all started, season 1 holds up.
Viewers were so shocked at the the violence, swearing, and magical poo, a lot of social commentary went right over their heads. The stories are much simpler than what we get nowadays but this isn't necessarily a bad thing since the recent serialisations can be too convoluted to work.
Also, the decision to end the season on the biggest cliffhanger since The Simpsons episode, Who Shot Mr. Burns? was masterful.
