South Park Parodies Game Of Thrones: The 15 Best Bits

2. Red Robin Wedding

As the third episode of the Black Friday had thematically reached the third season of Game of Thrones there was one event that had to be included, The Red Wedding. In R.R. Martin's narrative it's a scene that shocked readers and viewers alike as some of the most likeable characters are killed off en masse. It's an emotional subject for fans so South Park would need to come up with something very clever to parody this specific event. Alternatively they could just change the venue to a Red Robin restaurant and totally subvert the situation. They of course chose the latter option and it's a great sequence which incorporates some of the visuals with the show with the added ridiculousness of a fake celebrity wedding. The narrative comes to a head here with the conflict between the two company CEOs of Microsoft and Sony after various double crosses are revealed. It's a classic example of South Park taking something of great significance to fans of the source material and turning it into something flippant and ridiculous. This is what the show does best and I, as a massive fan of both Game of Thrones and Martin's books, loved it.
