Southpaw's Antoine Fuqua Signs TV Deal With The Weinstein Company

Will it be another knock out?

According to Variety, the Weinstein Company's first venture into TV will have Antoine Fuqua at the helm.

This will be a multi-year deal where TWC will have first-look options with Fuqua to direct, develop or produce his television projects. Fuqua and Weinstein have previously worked together on the recent feature film Southpaw,starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a boxer fighting for the life of him and his daughter.

Antoine has a unique vision that is all his own,€ said Harvey Weinstein, Weinstein Company co-chairman. €œHis ability to take the adrenaline of action and emotion of drama, weaving them together, makes him one of the best contemporary directors and producers in our industry. We look forward to adding his powerhouse strength to our TV division.€

Some of Fuqua's directing credits include: Training Day(2001), Olympus Has Fallen(2013) and The Equaliser(2014). When asked about working with TWC again this time in a TV aspect Fuqua's stated "It€™s a great time to work in TV with the type of high-quality caliber shows that are out there now, Harvey, Bob and the entire Weinstein team have been great collaborators, so I can€™t think of a better studio to partner with on this endeavour.€

Fuqua€™s upcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven, starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke - is currently in post production. The film is slated for a September 23, 2016 release. Fuqua will also executive produce a pilot for a Training DayTV series for CBS.
