Squid Game: Every Character Ranked From Human Garbage To Definitely Deserves 45 Billion Won

2. Kang Sae-byeok (Player 067)

Initially only known as a pick pocket, and part of the reason for Gi-hun signing away his organs (long story), Kang Sae-byeok plays her cards incredibly close to her chest in the opening episode.

Sae-byeok comes across as a self serving loner, who has no interest in allying herself with any of the other contestants to improve her chances. However, whilst others play to settle the debts they have incurred, Sae-byeok’s motives are much more noble. Defecting from North Korea with her brother, Sae-byeok plays to amass enough money to smuggle her mother across the border, and create a life for her family in the South.

Being forced into team games allows Sae-byeok to gradually come out of her shell, and she ends up forming meaningful relationships with both Ji- yeong, a young woman who forfeits a game for Sa-byeok’s survival, and Gi-hun, the hapless protagonist she stole from in the very first episode.

Although she unceremoniously dies between games thanks to a combination of poor luck and Human Garbage Cho Sang-woo, her lasting impact inspires Gi-hun to set her brother up with a new family, along with half of his winnings.
