4. Hwang Jun-ho

The only main character not to take part in the games, Hwang Jun-ho is a police detective who travels to the island after hearing Gi-hun’s farfetched ramblings and discovers his brother may be involved. Although he can’t have expected it to be easy, even Jun-ho couldn’t have imagined he’d accidentally disguise himself as a masked guard involved in a major sub plot involving illegal organ harvesting before nearly being sexually assaulted by a gross American in an ornate mask.

That’s a rough day by any stretch of the imagination.

Although plot armour once again shields the eyes of the fellow guards who are clearly witnessing some unusual behaviour, Jun-ho is admirable in his determination to uncover the truth in this extremely dangerous situation.

He loses a couple of points for failing to see the plot twist that most of us figured out hours ago, but his ambiguous fate following the big reveal means that he may still have a role to play if the rumoured Season Two does materialise.
