ggr If ever a series underused its main characters, Voyager won the prize. In the beginning what we got was a tough, no-nonsense commander who hated everything the Federation stood for. Give him time to adjust once joining Voyager's crew, no? Within one episode he was the perfect Starfleet officer,completely abandoning any deep feelings or convictions he had about the Maquis and falling in line as Janeway's second. I didn't like Torres, but at least she retained her beliefs, remained essentially a Maquis. Chakotay just waved the white flag and surrendered. After that, though involved in most storylines he did little, and the only real one I can think of that centred around him was, you guessed it, one concerning Native American spirits. Oh dear. Why, why, why didn't they sacrifice him? What? I know the Native Americans didn't practice human sacrifice but come on: they could have made an exception, this once...
