Because sometimes, you just need an action hero. Dark and gritty is the selling point these days. First there was Batman, then James Bond, so why not.... Star Trek? One might argue the 2009 film was an attempt at that, but if you want to take that to the same level as a Christopher Nolan film, you need a Captain with the same level of grit that the series or film requires. Enter Maggie Q. Mission Impossible 3 and Live Free or Die Hard alone would've been proof enough she could handle this kind of role, but the real selling point is her turn in the CW's Nikita, where she plays a trained assassin who is trying to take down the very organization that trained her. Would a dark Nolan-esque Star Trek series or film work? With Maggie Q, I say definitely
