Star Trek: 10 Best Klingon Episodes
5. The Next Generation - Sins Of The Father
Worf's time in the Star Trek universe has been plagued by conflict with his own people. He has often struggled with Klingons in general, in no small part due to the fact that he was raised by humans and became a member of Starfleet. But his other issues go much further back than that.
Kurn, the brother Worf never knew he had, arrived on the Enterprise to speak with him about their late father, Mogh. The day he died, the colony Mogh lived on with Worf was massacred by the Romulans. A young Worf was one of a very small group of survivors, which is where his human father found him. Kurn only survived because he was on Kronos with a friend of the family.
Duras, the son of another Klingon who died on Khitomer, was posthumously accusing Mogh of helping the Romulans in their attack. Worf challenged this claim, eventually discovering that it was the father of Duras who aided the Romulans. The Klingon High Council was trying to shift the blame to protect the powerful house led by Duras. To protect the Empire, Worf accepted the charges and everything that came with them, including essentially being fired from being a Klingon.
Up until this point, Klingons had been depicted as honorable warriors who did not debase themselves with duplicitous political machinations. This episode was the first time that the Klingons had been shown to have the same flaws as every other species.
