Star Trek: 10 Best Klingon Episodes
4. Deep Space Nine - Blood Oath
For Klingons, a blood oath is serious business. Pledging yourself to a cause greater than yourself means everything, and following through on that pledge is is even more important. It's a matter of honor. Jadzia Dax ran into that when a group of old friends showed up on Deep Space Nine.
Trills are not bound to the debts of their previous lives. If they were, all they would be paying off old debts for eternity. Some symbiotes have multiple hosts. Dax's host before Jadzia was Curzon, a Federation Ambassador to Kronos. He became a highly respected figure in Klingon society, a status level Jadzia inherited to an extent.
Curzon had a blood oath with three Klingon warriors, Kor, Koloth and Kang, to avenge the murder of their sons at the hands of a criminal known as The Albino. Despite their insistence that Jadzia was not bound by the oath, she insisted on going on the mission. She might not have been Curzon but she did carry his memories and feelings. She couldn't walk away.
The brilliance of this episode was that it demonstrated the importance of the blood oath in Klingon culture, and to those aliens adopted into it. From a storytelling perspective, the episode also connected DS9 back to The Original Series. Kor, Koloth and Kang were all characters from the original 1960's TV show that made the franchise famous.
