Star Trek: 5 Biggest Examples Of Klingons Being Dishonourable

When you consider that Klingons themselves often cannot agree on what is honourable, it is hard for us to judge as well. But we gave it a go...

Throughout the vast Star Trek galaxy, the one alien race that keeps turning up more than any other has to be the Klingons. This is even without the help of Worf, son of Mogh, who notched up an impressive eleven TV seasons and four feature films under his baldrick. And just as fans enjoying rewatching the adventures of the favourite crews, the Klingons regale in tales of celebrated warriors; tales of courage, victory, but above all, tales of honour. As much as their culture is built around this doctrine however, it is one that seemingly has no strict definition. Worf himself once stated that to many Klingons, "nothing is more honourable than victory." Certainly victory is something to be celebrated, but does this mean that the ends always justify the means? Take the humble cloaking device for example; a staple of Klingon fleets ever since they were first acquired during one of their on-off treaties with the Romulans. It certainly gives the Klingons the upper-hand with the element of surprise, but surely being hidden is also anathema to the honourable notion of face to face combat? When you consider that Klingons themselves often cannot agree on what is honourable, it is hard for us to judge as well. Perhaps one person who can though, is Ezri Dax. Having the knowledge of being both an ambassador to Klingons, as well as married to one, she came to the conclusion that not only was dishonour killing the Klingon Empire, but also felt that it also deserved to die. Whether she is right or wrong about this, she does make an interesting point; it may be difficult to say exactly what actions can be defined as "honourable", but there are those whose dishonour can be spotted light-years away.
