Star Trek: 10 Character Fates Worse Than Death

2. Being A Cosmic God Whose Power Is Stripped Away

One of the greatest characters to come out of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Q was an omnipotent being whose powers make him appear as a god, and for all intents and purposes, that's exactly what he is. Of course, Q would say any similarities were the product of our tiny minds, but the comparison is apt, nonetheless.

Q loves to play with Captain Picard, and despite tormenting him over the years, he considers Jean-Luc to be the only friend he's ever had. Of course, Picard sees him as an annoyance, but for the most part, Q isn't malevolent.

In the episode "Déjà Q," Q shows up at another inopportune time naked on the bridge of the Enterprise. He reveals that he was stripped of all his powers due to his penchant for spreading chaos about the cosmos, and he was kicked out of the Q Continuum.

For a Q, this is a fate far worse than death, as it takes an immortal, omnipotent being, and turns them into the most pathetic lifeform in the universe: a human. Q ends up sacrificing himself to save the Enterprise and is rewarded with the return of his powers, but for a time, he lived in what could only be described as a living nightmare... For a Q, anyway.
